Rhode Island Temporary Disability and/or Caregiver Insurance (RI TDI)/(RI/TCI)
The State of Rhode Island provides Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) to eligible employees (as defined by the state) who are out of work due to a non-work related illness or injury for more than seven (7) consecutive days. Effective January 1, 2014 the state of Rhode Island will also provide four (4) weeks of TCI to eligible employees. An employee may obtain application forms from the Human Resources Office, apply online at www.dlt.ri.gov/tdi or contact the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training at 401 462-8420.
Long-Term Disability
RISD offers part-time faculty who are members of the Rhode Island School of Design Part-Time Faculty Association Long-Term Disability Insurance through Lincoln Financial. Part-time faculty members who elect this benefit agree to have their deductions spread over a 12-month period. Review the 2023 Long-Term Disability benefit summary.

Current Coverage: Provides disabled employees 60% of basic annual earnings, not to exceed $10,000 per month subject to certain pre-existing condition limitations.
Start Date: First of the month coinciding with or following the date of hire.
Benefit Elimination Period: Six (6) months coinciding with TDI and/or Supplemental Short Term Disability.
End Date: Coverage ends on the last day of active employment.
Cost: Premium cost is $.37 per $100 covered earnings per month. RISD will pay 50% of premium cost.
