RISD and the Facilities Trades Association completed a Memorandum of Agreement related to the 2022 Position Duties and Minimums Review. View the completed MOA.


January 4, 2022

On December 17, 2021, RISD received notice that Teamsters Local 251 is trying to hold an election to become union representatives of all custodians, facilities workers (including grounds/caretakers and movers) and group leaders at RISD. An election will be held by the National Labor Relations Board via mail-in ballot process in the coming weeks, date(s) to be determined soon.

As a follow up, Vice President for Campus Services Jack Silva recently shared the following information with impacted staff to aid in informed decision making on election day:


November 1, 2021

The new collective bargaining agreements between RISD and the Museum Guards Association, Public Safety Officers Association; Sergeants Association, Facilities Trades Association/NEARI/NEA and RISD Technical Association/NEARI have been posted.


September 27, 2021

The terms of the Academic Support Association contract have been extended through June 30, 2022 by Memorandum of Agreement.


September 16, 2019

The July 1, 2019–June 30, 2022 collective bargaining agreement between RISD and the Full-Time Faculty Association has been posted.


July 15, 2019

On July 10, 2019, the Full-Time Faculty Association (NEARI/NEA) ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with a duration of July 1, 2019–June 30, 2022. The College would like to thank the Association team for their collaborative and thoughtful discussions at the bargaining table and looks forward to continuing to work closely with the FTFA over the next three years. An updated collective bargaining agreement will be posted shortly.


July 8, 2019

The July 1, 2019-June 30, 2022 collective bargaining agreement between RISD and the Teamsters/Stationary Engineers has been posted.


June 13, 2019

RISD is pleased to announce that on June 11, 2019, Teamsters, Local 251 (Stationary Engineers) ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with a duration of July 1, 2019-June 30, 2022. The College thanks the members of the Stationary Engineers bargaining unit for their hard work during negotiations, as well as their many years of dedication and service to RISD. An updated collective bargaining agreement will be posted shortly.
