FT Faculty and Librarians Life and AD&D

Basic Life*

RISD provides basic term life insurance, at its sole expense, to full-time faculty and librarians who are members of the Rhode Island School of Design Faculty Association. Insurance is provided through The Standard.

Current Coverage: The plan provides for 100% of annual base salary up to a maximum coverage amount of $300,000 with a minimum of $50,000.
Start date: First of the month coinciding with or following date of hire.
End date: Last day of active employment. Participants have the option to convert their group coverage to an individual policy, at their own expense, within 31 days from the end date.
Cost: RISD pays for the cost of this benefit.

While RISD cannot give tax advice, please note the basic life benefit coverage may impact your W-2 imputed income.  We encourage you to consult your tax accountant for additional information.


Accidental Death & Dismemberment*

RISD provides accidental death and dismemberment insurance to full-time faculty and librarians who are members of the Rhode Island School of Design Faculty Association. Insurance is provided through The Standard.

Current Coverage: The plan provides benefits up to 200% of annual base salary not to exceed $300,000. Benefits in the event of bodily injury or death due to accidental means (other than natural causes).
Start date: First of the month coinciding with or following the date of hire.
End date: Last day of active employment.
Cost: RISD pays for the full cost of this benefit.


Employee Optional Life*

RISD offers optional life insurance to full-time faculty and librarians who are members of the Rhode Island School of Design Faculty Association. Insurance is offered through The Standard.

Coverage: The plan provides amounts in multiples of 1–5x your annual base salary, not to exceed $750,000.00. Coverage may be subject to underwriting approval if late entrant and/or if request is more than 3x annual base salary or $300,000.
Start date: First of the month coinciding with or following the date of hire.
End date: Last day of active employment. Participants have the option to convert their group coverage to an individual policy, at their own expense, within 31 days from the end date.
Cost: Review the employee cost for the optional life plans.


Spouse Life*

RISD offers spouse life insurance to full-time faculty and librarians who are members of the Rhode Island School of Design Faculty Association. Insurance is offered through The Standard.

Coverage: The plan provides coverage of $25,000.00 and is contingent upon the employee having employee optional life coverage.
Start date: First of the month coinciding with or following the date of hire.
End date: Last day of active employment. Participants have the option to convert their group coverage to an individual policy, at their own expense, within 31 days from the end date.
Cost: Review the employee cost for the dependent life plans.


Child Life

RISD offers child life insurance to full-time faculty and librarians who are members of the Rhode Island School of Design Faculty Association. Insurance is offered through The Standard.

Coverage: The plan provides coverage of $5,000.00 per dependent and is contingent upon the employee having employee optional life coverage.
Start date: First of the month coinciding with or following the date of hire.
End date: Last day of active employment. Participants have the option to convert their group coverage to an individual policy, at their own expense, within 31 days from the end date.
Cost: Review the employee cost for the dependent life plans.
