June is LGBTQ Pride Month

by

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in June to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which took place in June 1969.

On Saturday, June 26, Love to All Project, the world’s largest LGBTQ-youth-led non-profit organization, organized a Pride March beginning at the Van Wickle Gates of Brown University’s campus, heading down the hill towards RISD, and ending on the Mike Van Leesten Pedestrian Bridge. The event was organized in collaboration with Brown University and RISD through the Brown Center for Students of Color, the Brown LGBTQ+ Center, and the RISD Center for Community Partnerships.

This event was supported by a group of institutional volunteers from RISD Museum, CE, RISD Store, the President’s Office, CSI, and ISE. Specifically, CE staff decorated Project Open Door and the sidewalks outside CE, Museum staff staffed the volunteer table during the event, and President Somerson walked in the parade. Santiago Alvarado 24 ID designed the t-shirt and the artwork displayed above.
