RISD recognizes that employees may have suggestions for improving our workplace, as well as complaints about the workplace. The most satisfactory solution to a job-related problem or concern is usually reached through a prompt discussion with an employee’s supervisor. With RISD’s Open Door philosophy, employees should feel free to contact their supervisors, another member of management, or Human Resources with any suggestions and/or complaints.
While employees are encouraged to openly communicate their views, not every complaint can be resolved to the employee’s satisfaction. Even so, open communication is essential to a successful work environment, and all employees should feel free to raise issues of concern without fear of reprisal.
Please note that some RISD policies, such as the Discriminatory Harassment and Title IX Policies, contain specific reporting procedures that should be followed. Employees should utilize the voluntary Open Door process for reports and ideas that are not addressed through the RISD’s specific reporting procedures.
