Onboarding at RISD for New Employees: Within Your First Month

During your first month at RISD, you will continue to learn more about what expectations for success look like in your role, about the College, our community, your department, and the people around you, and may even begin to participate in community-wide events as you build your network of colleagues.

  • Engage in an informal check-in meeting with your manager. Some items to consider discussing include observations, issues, and priorities, as well as any questions and concerns. You may also want to use this conversation to:
    • Ask for and receive timely, on-going, meaningful “everyday” feedback
    • Review completed trainings and upcoming training opportunities
    • Establish your professional development plan and performance goals
    • Discuss completed onboarding meetings and work on initial assignments

  • Be mindful of the 31 day deadline to complete your benefits enrollment. Contact Melanie Gomes at mgomes01@risd.edu with questions or for more information.

  • Participate in RISD’s New Employee Orientation.  Check your appointment letter for information. Details follow from Human Resources.
  • Continue to meet with peers, colleagues, and key stakeholders within and outside of your department to foster successful working relationships
  • Take the opportunity to learn more about RISD’s culture, i.e. explore galleries and new exhibits at RISD Museum, enjoy lunch at one of our dining facilities, visit our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages, and more. Attend community and social events, including new staff events, Town Halls, lectures, Crits, Staff Council meetings, and others.
  • We invite you to explore the Involved page regularly. It's a hub of exciting happenings, from professional development opportunities to social gatherings. Discover ways to connect, learn, and be part of the vibrant community we're building together. Your active participation enriches our collective experience!

  • If you have not done so already, complete RISD’s required Discriminatory Harassment training, accessible via your RISD email. Contact success@getinclusive.com if you have not received a link to complete this training.
  • Review information relevant to RISD’s SEI Accountability Plan.
